Quarter of a Billion Dollar Fire Loss in 1912 The annual report of the New York State superintendent of insurance shows that the fire loss in the United States and Canada during 1912 amounted approximately to $225,000,000—about $9,000,000 less than in 1911 and $2,000,000 less than the average for the last five years. The fire insurance companies doing business in New York State wrote $5,835,715,118 of insurance during 1912—$218,500,000 more than in 1911. The excess of premiums received over fire losses incurred and estimated expenses upon New York State business amounted to $5,561,000.
