Quick Action Fire Fighting The wide-awake fire fighters in a number of big cities have found that a motorcycle equipped with a set of chemical tanks greatly increases the efficiency of the department in putting out fires before they have grown large enough to do any great damage. With a machine, two men can be rushed to the fire before the horse-drawn apparatus could be well started, and with the extinguishers are able to snuff out the fire while it is still in its early stages. Captain Walter Wilcox, engine house No. 10, Toledo, O., is much interested in this connection. He reports that the greater speed of a motorcycle allows a man to reach a fire very shortly after it has started, and before it has had time to grow, and as a result fire losses are much reduced when the motorcycle is used.
