What Chief Haney Is Thought of at Home The Jacksonville, Fla., Times-Union of recent date contained the following editorial: “Chief Haney’s friends here—and they are the people of Jacksonville — read with pleasure the statement published in yesterday’s Times-Union that he had been elected president of the International Association of Fire Engineers. The honor paid our fire chief gives an added prominence to the city that has placed him in charge of its fire fighters. Those of us who have been here more than 20 years know what Jacksonville owes to Chief Haney. A score or more of years ago we had a fire department that was poorly equipped and inefficient. It was in charge of one of the finest gentlemen in Jacksonville, a man of high ability in other lines but inexperienced as a fire fighter.
