Motor Trials at Reading, Pa. The annual parade and inspection of the Reading, Pa., fire department, in command of Chief George W. Miller, has usually taken place on Labor Day. This year it was postponed until Thanksgiving Day so that the motor pumping engines and ladder truck ordered might then be exhibited and enter into a competitive test with horse-drawn and steam-operated apparatus. The two pumping engines will not arrive until December 20, but it is expected that the motor truck will arrive by Thanksgiving Day, when the parade will take place. The volunteer firemen of Berks county will meet at Reading. Saturday, December 20, and organize a county association, at which time it is expected the trial and contest of motor engines and other apparatus will take place.
