Chief A. V. Bennett of Birmingham to Resign Chief A. V. Bennett, of the Birmingham, Ala., fire department, will resign January 1, to accept a position with the Birmingham Water Company. He declines to state at this time just what the position is which he is to accept. Chief Bennett has had the matter under consideration for six months and has frequently discussed it with the fire commissioners, who have endeavored to persuade him to remain in his present position and still hope that he will change his mind before the first of the year. The whole city apparently is of the same mind as the fire commissioners in the matter.
