CORRESPONDENCE San Diego Will Have Filtered Water TO THE EDITOR—We wish to call your attention to a misleading statement regarding our department in a recent issue. On page 400, under the sub-heading “Filtration,” you state that “San Diego, Cal., by a vote of 2,014 to 4,731, has defeated a $60,000 proposition for a filtering plant.” It is true that the proposition to spend $60,000 was defeated, but through a technicality only. The vote was 4,731 for the proposition and 2,014 against. The proposition failed because of a State law which requires that such a proposition shall receive two-thirds of the votes cast at the election. In this case this number was 7,310. The proposition for the filtering plant was one of four propositions before the people at one time, the total bond issue contemplated being for $980,000.
