Collapse of Water Tank at Mankato GENERAL NEWS FEATURES A water tank, located on top of the wholesale grocery house of the L. Patterson Mercantile Company, at Mankato, Minn., collapsed recently, doing great damage to the building and seriously injuring one man. The tank, which was erected several years ago, was of steel. When filled with water it weighed about one hundred tons, and carried water for the sprinkler system in the store. It was supported by structural iron work, two legs of which rested on the rear wall of the building and two on the side wall. There was a space of 30 feet between the roof and the bottom of the tank. The collapse came soon after a severe electrical storm accompanied by heavy wind and rain.
