Keouced the fire loss in New York city $6.319,735. Reduced the number of fires more than 2,600 this year. Added 216 civilians to the operating force of the department. Introduced bills in the legislature for the prevention of arson. Caused 255,660 inspections of buildings for the remedying of fire hazards. Extended the paid department to the Newtown section of Queens, displacing the old volunteer companies there.
