New Fire Commissioner in Harness Robert Adamson, New York’s newly appointed fire commissioner, made his debut on New Year’s day in the fire headquarters before an appreciative assemblage of deputy fire chiefs, battalion chiefs, other department officials and a few friends. Joseph Johnson, retiring fire head and a life-long friend of the new commissioner, as master of ceremonies, welcomed his successor with a heartiness in which friendship greatly overweighed his own feelings at going out of office. Commissioner Adamson and former Commissioner Johnson came from the same part of the country. The present official was horn in Jonesboro, a little town near Atlanta, Ga., and Johnson in Griffen, only a few miles away. As young men they started together in the newspaper game, Johnsdn as a reporter on the Atlanta Constitution and Adamson on another newspaper in that city. They became fast friends and for a long time roomed together.…
