Politics in Butte, Mont., Condemned The report recently issued by the fire committee of Butte, Mont., has aroused much interest in that city. A local newspaper says of it: “It is not to be wondered at that Chief Peter Sanger took advantage of the opportunity to declare himself in vigorous terms as to the way in which he has been subjected to adverse criticism. Every citizen who has the best welfare of the city at heart certainly resents any attempt whatever to inject politics into the management of the fire department For many years Chief Sanger has kept the department admirably free from politics, and he should be approved by all in his endeavor to keep it out at this time. A chief of a fire department must have the kind of authority that will enable him to bring it to the highest point of efficiency and keep it there.…
