Department Store Fire at Columbus The large department store of Simon Loeb and Brother, at Columbus, Miss., was destroyed by fire a few days ago. The fire was discovered at 2 o’clock a. m., and within one hour the work of destruction was complete. Starting on the main floor of the building, the fire spread with such remarkable rapidity that nothing was saved, and when the firemen arrived the whole building with its magnificent stock of fall and winter goods was a mass of flames. Considering the magnitude of the fire, the close proximity of the surrounding property that other buildings were not destroyed is a tribute to the efficiency of the fire department, in command of Chief J.
