FIRE DEPARTMENT DOINGS DEPARTMENT INFORMATION Hope Engine Company, of Harrisburg, Pa., was 100 years old on January 6. Lead, S. D., has installed a paid fire department with John B. Mayor as chief. Waco, Tex., at a recent election voted not to substitute a paid for a volunteer department. Medals for Des Moines, Ia., firemen are to be awarded every year by the civil service commission of that city. Mayor Bell, of Indianapolis, Ind., issues orders to firemen that liquor drinking while on duty is strictly forbidden. Fire Marshal John R. Dennis, of Providence, R. I., has been appointed fire commissioner to succeed A. H. Smith, resigned. A special committee has been selected at Macon, Ga., to go over the mayor’s appointments of firemen and weed out the undesirables. H. Frank Radigan, who has been a member of the Lockport, N.
