NEW YORK AS A CONVENTION CITY. To be the meeting place of many conventions has become something of a fad by the larger cities throughout the country, New York included. Last year, by animated campaigning, Philadelphia brought to that city a score or more of associations to hold their annual conventions. Chicago and the cities farther on toward the Pacific coast have been and are at present extending invitations to organizations to “Come West.” It doesn’t require very keen perception to see the advantages gained from entertaining large bodies of men engaged in business of every description. It not only creates business for the hotels and city utilities, but it furnishes an opportunity to place before the strangers whatever attractions a city possesses, and thus advertises it far and wide as no other plan can. So far as New York City is concerned, no boosting should be necessary to unfold…
