Paid Fire Force for Montclair, N. J. Arrangements are being made to convert the Montclair, N. J., fire department from a part paid to a full paid force on May 1. The change will replace 42 “call” firemen by nearly as many paid men, headed by Chief F. E. Williams, who will receive a salary of $2,500 a year. The cost of the proposed paid force over the present call force will be about $7,500 annually. It is also proposed to add more automobile apparatus. There are already four pieces besides a car for the chief.
