Davenport, Ia., Annual Fire Report Chief Peter Denger of the Davenport, Ia., fire department in his report for last year, which is the thirty-second of the department, presents the following information: Total alarms 406, of which 141 were day and 265 night alarms, an increase of 54 over the preceeding year. There were 385 fires, an increase of 45 over the number in 1912. The principal causes for fires were chimneys, 101; rubbish, 31; matches and boys, 30, and spontaneous combustion, 23. There were 206 fires due to carelessness and there was one alarm for every 117 citizens. There were 198 fires in frame, 79 in brick buildings, 103 outside of buildings, and 173 in dwellings. Four fires extended to other buildings, and 16 to other floors. The total loss was $268,-506.31, of which $8,673 was on buildings and $18,762.42 on contents.
