GUARDING THE SAN DIEGO WATER SYSTEMS When the present critical situation between the United States and Mexico broke out the officials of the city of San Diego, Cal., took immediate steps to protect the water supply of that community. San Diego is peculiarly situated in the relation of its water supply to any border troubles that might arise, as this is an important military base for both the army and navy. The city’s municipal impounding system extends eastward into the back country for a distance of more than GO miles, and in many places the pipe lines, conduits and dams are as close as three miles to the international boundary line. A successful attempt to dynamite a dam, control or tear out any vital portion of a pipe line or conduit would place San Diego and the neighboring communities in a very serious predicament.
