Dwelling Burned at Montgomery At Montgomery, Ala., one afternoon recently fire destroyed two homes and damaged three others, with an estimated loss of $60,000. The fire originated in South Court street, and southwesterly winds carried the sparks across to Sayre, Holcombe, Caroline, Wilson and several other neighboring streets. The ceaseless work of the entire fire department was not sufficient to prevent the flying sparks from finding lodging places, where they originated the destruction that followed. The fire started at 1 :25 p.m. and when the first motor engine reached the scene the fire was encircling several buildings and in a few minutes all the buildings destroyed were burning. The entire fire department, in command of Chief J. F. Browder, had a hard three hours fight to stop it. Sparks set fire to shingle roof buildings, and many buildings were saved before the fire got control of them. The buildings destroyed…
