New Chief in Command at Raleigh Chief Charles D. Farmer, who has been assistant chief of the Raleigh, N. C., fire department since the paid department went into effect, in December, 1912. and who was recently appointed chief of the department, succeeding Chief Sherwood Brockwell, who resigned to become state fire inspector and chief of fire prevention, has been sworn into office. The new chief has been a member of the Raleigh Fire Department for ten years. He entered the service as a member of W. R. Womble Hook and Ladder Company. Later he joined the Capital Hose Company and was its assistant foreman until he was made assistant Chief. Mr. Farmer’s grandfather, Mr. Charles Kuester, was the tillerman on the old hand book and ladder truck and his father, J. T. Farmer, was a member of the Rescue Fire Company for years.
