FOR A SIMPLIFIED BUILDING INSPECTION. A plan has now been outlined by the New York State Factory Investigation Commission for the simplification of the inspecting of new buildings in New York City, the plan providing for the creation of one commissioner of buildings to have jurisdiction throughout the city and whose bureau would inspect all plans and construction. This is designed to concentrate control over all matters relating to the construction of new buildings whether they be factories, mercantile establishments, dwellings or tenement’ houses. This commissioner would be appointed by the mayor. The plan is designed to meet and overcome a condition that leads to complaints by business men and landlords’ that there was too great a variety of inspection and sometimes conflict between the requirements of one department and another.
