Furniture Store Fire at Savannah At Savannah, Ga., on September 1 the furniture store of J. B. Whitaker, on Broughton street, was destroyed by fire. The loss was about $50,000. The fire started on the ground floor near stairs which ran to the roof, and also an elevator shaft. The building was three stories high, 60 by 90 feet, and of brick construction. It took place at 11.45 p. m. The fire department had in service five motor engines, four combination hose wagons, one motor chemical engine and two ladder trucks and had ten streams on the fire at one time. The water pressure was 40 pounds, through a 12inch main.
