Fewer Battalion Chiefs for Jersey City

Issue 17 and Volume 56.

Fewer Battalion Chiefs for Jersey City In a communication to the Jersey City, N. J., Commissioners this week, Commissioner of Public Safety Frank Hague requested that the number of battalion chiefs in the fire departmemnt be reduced from six to four. The letter was referred to the law department, to ascertain whether or not there is legal warrant for the proposed change. Commissioner Hague gives as his reason for the request that the recent installation of motor apparatus and other changes and reforms he has effected makes the present force of six men unnecessary, and states that four men are all that are required to perform the duties properly under present conditions.
