Fire Service Improvements In supplimentary reports recently issued the National Board of Fire Underwriters have the following to say relative to fire departments: Williamsport, Pa. Except for a partial compliance with the recommendations for providing minor equipment, engine tests and a drill school, no material improvements have been made in the fire department. A new automobile combination pump, chemical and hose wagon was to be delivered early in October, 1914, which will doubtless be placed in service at Station 5. The principal recommendations which are receiving the support of the chief include suitable examinations for the different grades of firemen and the appointment of an assistant chief and a lieutenant for each company, a gradual increase in the full paid force, and the carrying out of all of the recommended changes and additions in the apparatus.
