Chief Smith of Barrie Dead Seized with a fainting spell while at a small fire on December 26, Chief George G. Smith, of Barrie, Ont., died as he was being taken to his home. He was 75 years of age. had been a member of the Barrie department for 50 years, and was chief for the past 30 yearn. Chief Smith was, it is said, the oldest chief in Ontario. He conducted business as an undertaker and furniture dealer from 1869 until his death. A widow, five sons and a daughter survive.
