Tractors Tested in New York Two C. J. Cross Front Drive Tractors were officially delivered to the New York Fire Department on Friday last in the presence of the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners, Chief of the Fire Department, and the fire apparatus board. The tractors exceeded the contract requirements, making a non-stop run through the city, and the speed and hill climbing tests were equally successful. This was the first delivery of Cross two-wheel tractors attached to old fire apparatus ordered for New York City, and are said to be efficient in all respects. Two type machines were delivered, one attached to a steam engine, and another attached to an aerial ladder truck. Cross tractors are in service at Bridgeport, Conn.; Niagara Falls, N. Y.; New Brunswick, N. J.; Bayonne, N. J.; Philadelphia, Pa., and from the favorable comments made by officers of these departments it would seem that the time…
