Chief Curran Has Narrow Escape

Issue 2 and Volume 57.

Chief Curran Has Narrow Escape Chief Patrick Curran, of Washington, Pa., the oldest active fire chief in the State of Pennsylvania, was seriously injured and had a narrow escape from death last Wednesday in a fire which desrtoyed a theatre and for an hour threatened the destruction of the entire business section of that city. That Chief Curran is alive is due to the heroism of Patrolman Warren Kilgore, who at the risk of his own life ran into the very middle of the blaze and dragged out the unconscious chief, who had been overcome by smoke and had fallen into a hole at the rear of the theatre stage. In his fall the chief sustained deep cuts, an artery in one arm being severed. Later he directed his men from a cot where he lay helpless.
