Office Building in Jacksonville Partially Destroyed Fire which it is believed had its origin in the elevator shaft and ate its way to the roof burned out all the offices on the sixth floor and many of those on the fifth floor of the Dyal-Upchurch Building in Jacksonville, Fla., on the morning of January 4. Those on the other floors were flooded and damaged by smoke and heat. The fire department has been highly praised for its efficient work in confining the flames to the fifth and sixth floors, and saving the building from total destruction. When the department arrived the building was apparently doomed and a mass of overhead wires added to the difficulty of overcoming the fire. The building, a six-story structure in the downtown business section, was valued at $135,000 and it was estimated that it was damaged to the extent of 65 per cent. The losses…
