FIRE DEPARTMENTS DOINGS Chief Frank W. Wood, of Brenham, Tex., has resigned. The permanent firemen of Beverly, Mass., are to receive a salary increase of 25 cents per day. The establishment of the office of fire marshal for Texarkana, Ark., is provided for in an ordinance passed by the city council last week. Newark, N. J., firemen have asked the commissioners for permission to organize a fife, drum and bugle corps. Capt. Henry S. Parker, for 41 years a member of the Beverly, Mass., Fire Department, resigned. J. J. Lonergan, Jr., has been appointed Chief of the Milburn, N. J., department, succeeding Thos. A. Douglas, resigned. Capt. Henry C. Kruse of Engine Co. 1, Milwaukee, has been promoted to the position of assistant chief, made vacant by William H. Young. A movement has now been started in Paterson, N.
