Chief R. M. Newell of Maysville R. M. Newell, who recently became chief of the Maysville, Ky., fire department, has been raised from the ranks to that position and his ability and fitness is recognized. Chief Newell, who is 41 years of age, was born in Maysville and was for eighteen years a member of the city’s volunteer fire department. Four years ago when the first piece of motor apparatus was installed in the city Mr. Newell was chosen by the Council as a member of the crew of Department No. 1 and as such made an excellent record, Chief Hite selecting him as captain. Maysville is a thriving city of 10,000 inhabitants, and is situated on the Ohio River, in Mason county, opposite Aberdeen, O. Chief Newell is a keen student of fire protection methods and under him the esprit de corps of the department is excellent.
