Chief Ross of New Rochelle Tenders Resignation. Chief James Ross, of the New Rochelle (N. Y.) Fire Department, last week sent in his resignation to the Board of Fire Commissioners. He gives ill health as the reason. Efforts are now being made to have him reconsider his action. Chief Ross last July celebrated his twenty-fifth anniversary as head of the New Rochelle department, and at a banquet given to him on that occasion the members of the department presented him with a handsome diamond ring. Chiefs from all over the State attended this affair. Chief Ross was horn in New Rochelle .December 10th, 1860. His parents were natives of Scotland, who settled in New Rochelle. On leaving school he entered the local postoffice as assistant postmaster, and on May 1st, 1898, became postmaster, which position he held until July, 1899, when he was made paid chief of the fire department,…
