Chief Behrens and Charleston Fire Department Commended Chief Louis Behrens and the Charleston, S. C., fire department have been highly commended for the efficient work done at the cotton fire at Boyce’s wharf, on March 16, in letters to the mayor of Charleston and to the chief. One letter to the mayor was from Jos. J. Windle, general manager of the Southern Adjustment Bureau, at Atlanta. The mayor turned the letter over to the chief and remarked that he thought it an excellent commendation for both the chief and the department and that in his opinion it should be given publicity. The letter said in part: “Our adjusters who were in Charleston investigating and adjusting a recent loss in one of the cotton warehouses there, have made their report, and I am very pleased to note that this loss was an agreeable exception to the general run of cotton losses…
