FIRE DEPARTMENT DOINGS The Illinois State Firemen’s Association is to hold a tournament at Blue Island on July 27. Deputy State Fire Marshal Robert E. Daily, of Canton, Ill., died July 7, after a three weeks’ illness. Chief Griffin, of Logansport, Ind., reports the loss in that city for June at $1,500, twothirds of which was done by one fire. There were eight alarms. Fireman D. Kiser, of Engine Company No. 2, Winston-Salem, N. C., was killed on the evening of July 14, by coming in contact with a live wire while working at a fire. He was 23 years of age. The fire department of Monroe, La., was last week placed on an entirely paid basis. The salary of the chief was fixed at $100 a month; assistant chief, $75; chauffeur, $90; firemen, first year, $55; second, $60; third, $65.
