IMPROVEMENTS AT MARSHALLTOWN. Marshalltown, Ia., plans to install a 3,500,000-gallon high pressure pumping engine the coming winter. For the purpose of securing data on pumps, Councilmen McFarland and Austin, Superintendent Hans Madsen and City Engineer W. H. Steiner last week visited the pumping stations at Waterloo and Cedar Falls. The estimated cost of the new pump is $10,000 to $12,000. The water department will take steps as soon as the stage of the water will permit to build a dam across the channel the water has cut thrown from Asher creek to protect the large supply mains from the wells to the city pumping station. In recent floods water has broken out through the east bank of Asher creek and has found a channel under the first bridge north of the river bridge in the Center street road.
