Chief Johnson of Bridgeport Daniel E. Johnson, who was recently appointed chief of the Bridgeport, Conn., fire department to succeed Edward Mooney, has been a mmber of the department continuously since 1889. In 1892 he was made tillerman of Ladder Truck No. 1 and the following year was chosen as driver of Engine No. 3. In 1895 he was advanced to the captaincy of Engine Company No. 1. This position he held until October, 1908, when he was appointed first assistant chief, and on the retirement of Chief Mooney, August 1 of this year, Johnson was selected to fill the vacancy.
