FUNDS FOR PUBLIC NEEDS. The ability of municipalities to secure funds for public necessities such as fire department equipment and water works improvements at favorable terms has been demonstrated anew by the success of the City of Hoboken, N. J., in negotiating a loan of $150,000 at an interest rate of two and seven-eighths per cent. This is stated to be the lowest rate ever secured by Hoboken. The measure of activity in business circles is indicated by the figures announced by the Department of Commerce for the week ending October 9. So far the October exports have been in a volume to indicate the breaking of all monthly records and exports for the week ending October 9, amounted to $67,774,927.
