Chemical Laboratory Burns The Thompson chemical laboratory at the Williams College, Williamstown, Mass., was destroyed by fire on Dec. 7th, resulting in a loss estimated at $54,000. The fire gave the local department the hardest fight they have experienced in years. Its origin is unknown. For a time, during the early hours of the fire, it threatened to spread to nearby residences and college buildings, and it was only through the energetic work of the local fire department under Chief A. Remillard that the flames did not communicate to the other buildings. During the course of the fire and especially in its early stage, there were a number of explosions of .chemicals.
