Shoe Factory Gutted in Newark The main factory of the Boyden Shoe Manufacturing Company, in South Canal Street, Newark, N. J., was gutted by fire recently with a loss estimated at $200,000. The fire, which was discovered in a shed close to the main building at 7.45 o’clock, quickly ate into the main building by way of a wooden door in the basement, connecting the shed with factory, and thence worked to the first and second floors with great rapidity. Chief Paul J. Moore, upon his arrival sent in a second alarm and shortly after a third alarm was turned in. The fire occurred in the morning and about 150 men employees escaped by way of the stairs, about fifteen girl employees on the fourth floor were led down a staircase and out of the building by a department foreman.
