Fire Destroys High School at Chicopee The Chicopee, Mass., high school and manual training school, all in one building, was destroyed by a fire on January 17. The structure occupied a space over 140 feet along by 100 feet wide, was constructed of iron and brick and three stories in height. When the alarm came in at 5.27 A. M., the department responded and promptly placed two gasoline pumping engines in operation, which, along with the several hydrant lines, afforded a satisfactory supply. However, when the department arrived, the fire had gained such a headway that it was impossible to determine where the fire started or where it was burning most fiercely so that all there was to do was to throw as much water as possible into the burning building and protect adjoining property.
