WATER DEPARTMENT GROWTH AT WAUKESHA. A report has been prepared by Superintendent B. B. Hayford of the Waukesha, Wis., Water Department, showing the increase in water department activities from 1908 to the present time. The report gives these figures: Number of water takers in 1908, 973; 1915, 1,971; number of hydrants in 1908, 211; 1915, 255; gross earnings, 1908, $21,435.90, with an $8 minimum; 1915, $29,475.73, with a $0 minimum; operating expenses, 1908, $14,043.19; 1915, $17,888.67; net earnings, 1908, $0,792.80; 1915, $11,007.06; number of feet of main in 1906, 116,842; 1915, 152,545. The report states that $136,705.45 has been spent for improvements to the water system since it was acquired by the city. The city furnished $117,903.44 of this amount through bond issues and transfers, leaving a balance of $18,712.01 taken from the earnings of the department.
