STANDARD HOSE COUPLINGS. A strong endorsement of the standardization of hose couplings appeared in a recent issue of the Meriden, Conn., “Record,” which referred editorially to the meeting at East Liverpool, O., of chiefs in Ohio and Pennsylvania within a radius of 60 miles of that city for the conference relative to standardization of hose couplings and everything else having to do with interchange of service between towns in case of conflagrations and then said: “In numerous fires, it has been demonstrated that fire departments of outside cities have been powerless to give effective aid because the fire hose did not fit the plugs of the city that was in danger. Some time ago there was agitation in New England along these lines looking toward the protection of cities through this interurban plan for uniform couplings.
