Monthly housekeeping inspection of all buildings, except residences, inaugurated, as a result of which 300 firemen made 1,224,177 inspections in 1914 and 1,500,000 in 1915. Complete survey of fire safety conditions in all public schools, necessary orders issued, and a code of fire prevention rules for schools adopted. Teaching of fire prevention initiated in all public schools and a fire prevention textbook provided for that purpose. Fire prevention taught by popular moving picture films, prepared under direction of the department. All lodging houses inspected and orders issued to safeguard life in this class of buildings. Expert inquiry made into fire protection in the subway and report forwarded to the mayor. Survey made of all fire companies, showing work done, and necessity for their continuance at existing locations, as a result of which 15 companies were discontinued and sent into new districts. The…
