FIRE DEPARTMENT CHANGES IN DAYTON. In Dayton, O., the city commission has enacted an ordinance which was framed following numerous conferences between Mayor Shroyer and Safety Director James, and which provides for one day off in three for the members of the fire department and for additional motor pumping engines to carry squad, and arrangements whereby the fire fighting force in the downtown and high hazard district will be increased. Safety Director James has been working for the one day off in three plan ever since he accepted his present office, and the new arrangement is regarded in the local press as another step toward an ultimate three-shift and eight-hour day for the city’s firemen.
