FIRE DEPARTMENT DOINGS From reports covering the United States and Canada the estimated losses by fire during the week ending May 15, 1916, aggregated $4,938,000 as compared with $2,170,000 for the corresponding week in 1915. E. E. Finney has been chosen chief of the Marshfield, Wis., department. The Slatington, Pa., Department has chosen Robert O. Keener as its chief. John G. Bensch has been chosen chief of the Jamestown, N. D. Department. William H. Davis has been chosen chief of the Flandreau, S. D., Department. The Council of Akron, O., is considering a $20,000 raise in the salaries of the firemen and policemen. William Tiemcyer has been chosen chief of the Utica, Neb., Department, and Will Rogers, assistant chief.
