QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS The following questions were among those asked at the extension courses of the New York Fire College, with answers by fire department engineers: Question: You respond to a fire in a public school. You are in command of a hook and ladder company. On approaching the school you see that the fire is on the third floor; the children are being dismissed from the structure by the various stairways. What would you do under the circumstances, first, as to getting the children out of the building; second, as to the raising and placing of ladders for the use of engine companies already stretching in? Answer: Assist the children to move away from the doorways and exits on the street, work quietly and notify the approaching apparatus to make as little noise as possible so as not to alarm the children inside the building.
