Sixteen More Tractored Engines and Ladder Trucks in New York Fire Commissioner Adamson, of New York City, will place in service by July 1st, sixteen additional tractored engines and ladder trucks. This will effect a substantial saving to the city, as motor apparatus can be maintained and operated at less cost than horse-drawn. Motorization of the Department is being carried out by Commissioner Adamson at minimum expense by equipping apparatus now drawn by horses with tractors. The front wheels of horse-drawn engines and ladder trucks are being taken off and a two-wheel motor substituted. The tractored apparatus will consist of ten engines and six trucks which will be placed in service at the following houses: Engine Co. 8, 165 East 51st St., Manhattan; Engine Co. 40, 153 West 68th St., Manhattan; Engine Co. 76 (2 sections), 105-7 West 102d St., Manhattan; Engine Co, 216, 11 Schol.cs St., Brooklyn; Engine Co.…
