Fire Partially Destroys Mill at Medicine Hat Fire, originating from an unknown cause, partially destroyed the plant of the Lake of Woods Milling Company, at Medicine Hat, Alb., Canada, a short time ago. The building occupied a space of 100 by 300 feet, was seven stories high and was built four years ago of wood and iron, with wood partition walls. The department received the first alarm by telephone at 3 a. m., and upon its prompt arrival found the condition serious. Chief W. E. Hatcher and his men worked for five hours with skill and determination and succeeded in extinguishing the flames before they could entirely destroy the plant. The value of the building was $185,000 and that of its contents, consisting of wheat and flour, was $215,000. The loss on the building amounted to $150,000 and that on its contents to $190,000.
