MUTUAL AID BETWEEN COMMUNITIES IN TEXAS IN CASE OF SERIOUS FIRE. A movement for a co-ordinated and co-operative system of mutual aid communities in the event of serious fire or conflagration has been inaugurated by the State Firemen’s Association of Texas, which provided at its recent convention for a committe to formulate plans for such a system and this committee, of which J. Ed. Schmitz, of Dallas, is chairman, has now issued a letter urging co-operation by the mayors and chiefs throughout the state. The letter which appears in another column of this issue of FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING, urges strongly the desirability of state-wide uniformity in regard to hose couplings and hydrant outlets, citing that in practically every instance where a fire has reached a magnitude that apparatus has responded from neighboring towns and cities such responding apparatus has been seriously handicapped through non-conformity of its equipment.
