Changes in Routine of Pittsburgh Firemen The principal changes made to the rules for firemen in Pittsburgh, Pa., as a result of the establishment of the two platoon system, were: Rule No. 17—Meal hours or days off will not be allowed. Meals must be eaten before reporting and after being relieved from duty. Other meals may be carried and eaten in the engine house. Rule No. 19—Platoons or shifts will go on duty and he relieved promptly at 8 o’clock a. m. and 6 o’clock p. m. daily, except as otherwise specified for semi-monthly changes. Semi-monthly changes of shifts from day to night and from night to day will be made at 12 o’clock noon on the 15th and last day of each month, the night shift working until noon of said day and the day shift working from noon until 8 o’clock a. m., thus completing the change necessary.…
