WATER WORKS NEWS ITEMS Work was recently commenced on a water works system at Garland, Utah. About 15,000 feet of mains are being laid and 25 hydrants installed at Chicopee, Mass. At a recent election at New Sharon, Ia., a bonds issue of $4,000 for a water works system was defeated. The new water works system at Lakeland, Fla., is expected to be completed soon, and with the light plant will cost about $110,000. Reports from Hutchinson, Kans., state that work has been started for an addition to the water works plant of the United Water, Gas and Electric Company. The Durham Water Company has been transferred to the city of Durham, N. C., for the sum of $325,000. Boston capitalists had owned the property since 1888. The borough of Pitman, N.
