THE FIRE DRILL ORGANIZATION IN NEW YORK CITY Fire drills safeguarding half a million factory workers and school children have been, instituted in New York City by Fire Commission Robert Adamson since October 16 last. On that date the Fire Commissioner organized a special Fire Drill Squad composed of twenty-five picked men from the uniformed force under Lieutenant Walter J. Dugan. Since its organization this Squad has been one of the busiest groups in the Fire Department and has inaugurated and perfected difficult and complicated fire drills in many large factories, some of the drills requiring repeated visits and the greatest amount of skill and patience on the part of the firemen. Incidentally, this particular squad has done much to protect human life. Commissioner Adamson decided to organize the squad because it is almost impossible for factory owners to comply with existing requirements of the law without expert help. The…
