Deputy Chief of New York Fire Prevention Bureau Fire Commissioner Adamson, of New York City, has appointed Harold E. Hughes deputy chief of the Bureau of Fire Prevention. Mr. Hughes for several years has been an engineer in the Bureau. Mr. Hughes’ appointment is, it is stated, almost the only exception which Commissioner Adamson has made to the rule of making all Civil Service appointments in strict numerical order from the eligible list. In this instance Inspector Hughes was No. 3 on the eligible list, which was promulgated only a short time ago. The exception, says a statement issued by the Commissioner, was made in this instance because the two first men on the list were non-residents of the city of New York.
